POSITION: Sports Groundsman

Shree Cutch Satsang Swaminarayan Academy is a non-profit educational institution located in Langata, Nairobi County, Kenya. The academy is dedicated to providing affordable and quality education to students aged 3 to 20. It offers an international-level curriculum across Nursery, Primary, Secondary sections, and College (BTEC) including junior and senior high school programs. The school collaborates closely with parents, teachers, and other professionals to support the holistic needs of every child and foster their growth and learning journey.

Role Description

The groundsman will be responsible for preparing, maintaining, and improving sports playing surfaces so they are safe, attractive, and suitable for competition, training while working collaboratively with teachers and other stakeholders to promote student sports development.

Educational & Vocational Qualifications.

• Basic Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is often preferred.
• Specialized Certifications: Vocational qualifications ,Diploma in Sports Turf Management, Horticulture, or Landscaping.
• Apprenticeships: Many enter the field through modern apprenticeships focused on grounds maintenance or greenkeeping.

Technical Licenses & Training

• Chemical Application: equivalent state/regional certifications for the safe handling and spraying of pesticides and fertilizers.
• Machinery Operation: Certifications or demonstrable experience in operating heavy turf machinery (e.g., mowers, tractors, and shredders)
• Health & Safety: A working knowledge of workplace safety, risk assessments (e.g., DOSH), and first aid.

Essential Skills & Attributes

• Agronomic Knowledge: A foundational understanding of soil science, plant biology, and seasonal turf care.
• Physical Fitness: The ability to perform strenuous outdoor labor, including lifting heavy equipment, walking long distances, and manual field preparation.
• Organization & Adaptability: Flexibility to work evenings and weekends to match sporting event schedules.
